Crush guava leaves with a mortar and pestle then add a cup boiling water. Allow the solution to cool and add a small amount of salt before swishing in your mouth for 30 seconds. Spit it out and repeat twice a day.

Salt for gargles

Salt is a natural disinfectant that helps your body to heal itself. Saline water may also remove particles of food and relieve bad breath. Add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of lukewarm water and mix well. Swish the solution in your mouth for up to 30 seconds. Spit out the solution and repeat twice a day.

Avoid using tobacco products

Smoking irritates gums and encourages plaque buildup. Both of these contribute to bad oral health and swollen gum exposing the gums to germs and reducing the flow of saliva. Chewing tobacco similarly increases the risk of periodontal, or gum, diseases like gingivitis.

Regular checkups with a dentist are also important

You should see a dentist every six months to a year for best oral health. A dentist can remove plaque and tarter from parts of your teeth and gums you’re likely to miss.
