1. Virgin Coconut Oil for Chapped Lips

You can use coconut oil in either solid or liquid form for this process.

  • Dab a very small amount of coconut oil on lips.
  • Repeat several times a day.
  • Before going to bed, a dab a small amount to replenish the moisture while you are sleeping.

  • Take 1 tablespoon of cocoa butter in a wide bottom pan, and heat to melt it.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil to it when it melts.
  • Put the mixture in a container
  • Freeze it for 20 minutes
  • Simply run your finger along the top of the hardened mixture.
  • Apply it to both lips and allow it to soak in.
  • Repeat the process 2 times a week.
  • You should see noticeable results within a few days of use, and relief from any pain or inflammation within a few minutes.

3. Coconut Oil with Sea Salt

The grainy texture of sea salt helps to remove the skin flakes from the skin. It also deals with any bacterial growth in the cracks of the lips.

  • Mix 1 teaspoon each of coconut oil (solid form) and sea salt.
  • Apply the mixture over the lips.
  • Gently massage it in circular motions for a few minutes.
  • Wipe off the mixture with a washcloth and pat dry.
  • Repeat 3 times a week.

4. Coconut Oil with Beeswax Lip Balm

Beeswax is a stronger emollient. And it protects the lips from several harmful elements, such as sun rays, dry air, cold weather, etc. Coconut oil also moisturizes the lips whiles honey holds in the moisture content.

  • To make coconut oil balm, first, add 1 tablespoon of virgin organic coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of beeswax and 1 teaspoon of virgin olive oil to a double boiler. Alternatively, you can also put them in a glass bowl over a smaller pan, which you will fill with water on the stove.
  • Then as the water below begins to heat up, the oils and beeswax will begin to liquify and blend.
  • Stir gently so the mixture is consistent.
  • Once they are thoroughly mixed, carefully pour the blend into a small glass jar or other container.
  • Store this in a dark, dry and cool place to increase its longevity.
  • To use, simply run your finger along the top of the hardened mixture. The heat of your finger will be enough to melt a small amount.
  • Apply it to both lips and allow it to soak in.
  • Repeat 3 times a week.

OR

  • Melt the 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon almond oil, a teaspoon raw organic honey, 2 tablespoons beeswax and 10-15 drops any essential oil in a double boiler.
  • Once the mixture is fully melted, remove from the heat and mix in the honey, almond oil and your essential oil.
  • Before the mixture can fully cool and harden pour it into a small glass jar or container. You can buy empty lip balm tubes and fill those up accordingly.
  • Allow the lip balm to fully harden and cool before closing the lids on these containers.
  • Store them in a cool, dry and dark place when not using them.
  • Apply them as you would a normal lip balm.
  • Re-apply at least daily for great results.

5. Coconut Oil with Olive Oil and Honey for Chapped Lips

Honey soothes irritation caused by chapping. The fatty acids present in olive oil nourish the skin.

  • Mix 1 tablespoon each of coconut oil, olive oil and 3/4 teaspoon of honey.
  • Whisk the ingredients well and store the mixture in a lip balm container.
  • Apply the mixture several times a day like a store brought lip-balm.
  • Alternatively, you can avoid honey if you are allergic to pollen.

7. Vitamin E Lip Balm With Coconut Oil

This process results in a perfect alternative for a store-bought and chemical based lip-balm. Beeswax protects your lips from external factors. Coconut oil moisturizes the lips. Honey holds moisture content. Vitamin E neutralizes the effect of free radicals. You can use any essential oil of your choice for a nice smell.



  • Using a double boiler, melt down 1 tablespoon each of grated beeswax and coconut oil.
  • Once it starts melting add a dash of honey into it.
  • Once all the ingredients melt down, add contents of 2 vitamin E capsules into it and few drops of any essential oil.
  • Mix well and remove from the flame.
  • Pour into a container and let it cool down and solidify.
  • Apply it over the lips several times a day.
  • Note: Make sure not to apply excess as it can cause make your lips greasy.

8. DIY Lip Scrub with Coconut Oil

This scrub helps to remove the flaking skin and accumulated dead skin cells.

  • Combine 1 tablespoon each of coconut oil and honey, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 5 drops of lemon juice.
  • Stir well and apply the mixture on the lips.
  • Gently massage in circular motions for a minute.
  • Leave it on for another minute and rinse off with water.
  • Repeat the process 2 times a week.
  • You can store the remaining mixture in refrigerator for future use.

  • Get virgin coconut oil and avocado oil.

  • Pour this mixture into the jar pot and keep them in the refrigerator to be harder.

  • Keep a saucepan on the heater. Pour 1-2 inches water in it.
  • Put a bowl or measuring cup on the water.
  • Pour the beeswax, Shea butter and coconut oil in the bowl.
  • Stir them until they become melted rightly. It takes about 10 minutes. 
  • Add several drops of peppermint and vitamin E oils. And stir them well.
  • Now store the mixture in the lip balm tins, tubes or pots.
  • Let them be cool and don’t keep the pots in the hot places.
  • But if you want harder balm, you can add more beeswax. Whiles a softer balm can be got by mixing more coconut oil or Shea butter.

15. Coconut Oil with Rose Hip Seed Oil

Rose Hip seed oil is usually considered an essential oil that helps in producing elastin and collagen. This mixed with coconut oil helps retain moisture and also makes your soft.

  • Mix 1/2 – 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (liquid state) and 1 – 2 drops of rose hip seed oil.
  • Apply the mixture over the lips several times a day and especially before going to bed.

16.Coconut Oil And Vaseline Lip Balm

  • Melt 1 tablespoon of Vaseline in a pan and add 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil to it. Mix well.
  • Pour the mixture into a container and let it cool.
  • Take a small amount of the and gently scrub it over the lips.
  • Repeat 3 to 4 times daily.
  • You can store in refrigerator for longer shelf life.

17. Coconut Oil for Babies or Newborn Chapped Lips

Dry and chapped lips can be difficult to little one, especially while breastfeeding. This process makes sure their lips stay soft, hydrated and supple.

  • Take a sterilized and clean Q-tip.
  • Dip in the coconut oil (liquid state).
  • Gently dab it on and around the lips of your baby.
  • Repeat as required.
  • Note: Make sure not to apply any pressure while applying as it can cause pain and discomfort to the baby.

Tips and Precautions

  • Use only virgin cold compressed coconut oil.
  • Also include coconut oil in your daily cooking.
  • Make sure to apply coconut oil on the lips before going to bed. Because, it prevents dry lips by morning.
  • Stop licking or sucking your lips. Because saliva will dry out the lips.
  • Dehydration in a body is first observed in lips. Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily to stay hydrated.
  • Don’t scrub or exfoliate your lips more than two times a week.
  • Try to avoid smoking.
  • Use sunscreen and lip balm when you go outside in the sun rays.
  • In winter, try to use fewer cosmetics on the lips. Give your lips time to breathe.
