This is by a special area of circular muscle located at the junction of the esophagus and stomach, called the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

Heartburn happens when the LES becomes weakened or relaxed without the presence of food or beverage passing. When this happens, the contents of the stomach can flow back into the esophagus. This results in the burning sensation along with other symptoms.

1. Baking Soda Remedies for Heartburn

Because it is alkaline, it restores the acid or alkaline balance within the digestive system. Baking soda also balances the pH levels in the bloodstream. It is one of the quickest ways to get relief from heart burn. Just a small amount of baking soda is enough to give you comfort.

How to Use

  • Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of water.
  • Mix it well and consume it.
  • Repeat the process as needed.
  • But don’t use this remedy regularly. While the baking soda does neutralize stomach acid, it’s high in salt and could make you feel nauseous if overused.


  • Stir 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of raw honey in a cup of warm water.

  • Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and 2 tablespoons of ACV in 250 mg of water.
  • Stir well and drink it 2 to 3 times a day on empty stomach.
